Trekking on Moreno Glacier

Trekking on Moreno Glacier

The Minitrekking excursion starts with the search for the passengers in El Calafate. Once in the port "Bajo de las Sombras" they embark to cross the Lago Rico, arriving at the opposite shore after approximately 20 minutes of navigation in front of the imposing south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier. On disembarking you will be taken to a cosy refuge with a privileged view of the glacier. From here, the trekking begins! We will start the tour with a walk along the shore of the lake and with our eyes fixed on the glacier so as not to miss the opportunity to see landslides.

When we reach the edge of the glacier, with the amazing blue tones of the ice framing the landscape, groups will be organized for the trekking, this excursion is highly personalized. Once on the glacier, you will walk to enjoy this frozen paradise declared a World Heritage Site (1981). The circuit on the glacier is of medium difficulty, the ice surface is irregular but firm and safe. During the walk you will be able to appreciate a variety of typical glacier formations such as deep crevasses, blue sinkholes, huge seracs and turquoise lagoons.

At the end of the walk on the ice, you will walk through the periglacial area and the lateral moraine from where you will have a panoramic view of the Perito Moreno Glacier, the mountains and the lake. Then, you will return along a path that crosses the exuberant Andean Patagonian forest, thus completing the three-hour walk along the lake shore, moraine, ice and forest (of which approximately one hour is on the glacier ice). Arrival at the refuge.Shortly afterwards you will board the boat to return to the Puerto Bajo de las Sombras, but first you will contemplate the enormous walls of the glacier from the boat. It includes a visit of approximately one hour to the footbridges of the Perito Moreno Glacier, 7 km from the port. There you can enjoy the spectacular panoramic view of the glacier and walk along one of the self-guided trails.Return to the hotels
