DISCOVER EL CALAFATE

One destination, many possibilities.

El Calafate is in Santa Cruz Province, in the heart of Patagonia, about a 3.5-hour flight from Buenos Aires. It's the gateway to Los Glaciares National Park and the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the most breathtaking sights in Argentina.

You can walk the boardwalks facing the glacier, take a boat across Lago Rico to get close to its walls of ice or, if you're up for it, hike on the ice itself on the Minitrekking or Big Ice tours. With a few extra days, add El Chaltén, Argentina's trekking capital, or a 4x4 outing along the shores of Lago Argentino.

We'll help you choose the excursions that suit your pace and plan the trip with you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What people ask us most about El Calafate.

How many days should I spend in El Calafate?

We recommend at least 3 days and 2 nights to cover the highlights. If you have more time, you can combine it with El Chaltén, the small town known as Argentina's trekking capital, where you'll find more incredible scenery.

When is the best time to visit El Calafate?

You can visit the town and the glacier year-round! The best season runs from the Argentine spring through early fall, from September to March, when the weather is milder and hikes and outdoor excursions are most enjoyable.

Who can visit Los Glaciares National Park?

Everyone. At the Perito Moreno Glacier area there are wheelchairs for the boardwalks (a companion is required), a café, a restaurant and Wi-Fi areas. Tours like Minitrekking or Big Ice do have age limits and require good physical fitness, so we'll advise you before you choose.

Do the packages include flights?

No. Packages include airport–hotel–airport transfers, hotel accommodations with breakfast, and the excursions listed for each option, but not flights. If you'd like, we can also quote flights for your itinerary. Please note that the entrance fee for Los Glaciares National Park is not included either.
