5 PROPOSALS FOR YOUR TRIPWe plan your trip for you ↓Whales, beaches and adventure in Patagonia. Puerto Madryn sits on the northern Patagonian coast and is the closest major hub for visiting Península Valdés, a protected natural area.
Its star attraction is the southern right whale: the whales gather in the waters of Golfo Nuevo to breed and nurse their calves just 15 kilometers (about 9 miles) from town. Across the bay, the rocky Península Valdés is home to penguins and elephant seals, which are hunted by orcas.
From Madryn you can also visit Punta Tombo, the Punta Loma sea lion colony or the Chubut River Valley. Tell us what you'd like to see and we'll plan a custom trip for you.

Classic Valdes Peninsula Excursion
It depends on what you want to see. Península Valdés, the Chubut River Valley, the Punta Loma sea lion colony and Punta Ninfas can be visited year-round. Whale season runs from June to November, and the Punta Tombo penguin colony can be visited from September 15 through March.
Southern right whales gather in Golfo Nuevo to breed, about 15 km (9 miles) from town. Trips to El Doradillo run from June to October, and to Puerto Pirámides from July to November, with whale-watching cruises on a regular boat or a semi-submersible. We'll confirm availability for your dates.
Our trips range from 3 days/2 nights to 5 days/4 nights. Three days is enough to explore Península Valdés; with 4 or 5 you can add the Chubut River Valley or, in season, whale watching in Puerto Pirámides or a visit to Punta Tombo.
They include round-trip airport transfers, the classic Península Valdés tour with the reserve entrance fee, and a standard-category hotel with breakfast (comfort and superior options available). Some packages add whale watching, Punta Tombo or the Chubut River Valley. Flights are not included, but we can arrange them for you.
